-1975 Steyr-Puch Warn 712M Pinzgauer:

This truck was built by Steyr-Puch in Graz, Austria. The Pinzgauer is designed for military use in both Austria and Sweden. This particular truck is dubbed the Warn Pinz. It was released from military service in the 1990s. In 1994 it was built for racing by Taubenreuther in Germany. The reason it was built for racing is Warn Industries had begun hosting a the Transylvania Trophy in the Ukraine in conjunction with Taubenreuther . Mike Warn drove the truck in the 94 Trans Trophy although we don't know how he finished. We do have the 94 trophy video with the truck featured in the race. It was originally outfitted with a Warn 12,000lbs winch in front and a Warn multi-mount in the rear. The exterior roll bar is not stock. The roll bar does serve as the snorkel for deep fording and has the air intake above the passenger door. The Pinzgauer is named after a mountain horse. It is powered by a 90hp air-cooled 4 cylinder engine. It has a forward cab design for excellent vision and turning radius. They came in both 4x4 and 6x6. The 710 models and the 4x4s and the 712 models are the 6x6. The Pinz has shift on the fly 4wd, a 5spd tranny, transfer with high-low, fully locking diffs at all 6 wheels, portal axles, independent suspension and a tubular chassis design. This all makes for one serious off-road truck! The Warn Pinz is outfitted with an Eberspacher gas fired heater, 4-point racing seats in front, rear cab back, tread wall rear floor, diesel tail lights, Warn over head lights, Recaro style rear seats and aluminum tool boxes in rear. After the 94 trophy Mike was not able to get the truck into the USA as it was not 25 years old yet. So he sold it to a guy in Europe who raced it more in rallies around Europe and in N. Africa. We believe it was also used as a service truck in off-roading events. In 2000 it was imported to the USA and shortly there after sold to a Pinzgauer collector in Michigan. We purchased the truck in 2003 and are proud to own such a capable off-road truck, the history of it is very cool also ! Unfortunately the winches were removed before we bought the truck, I guess we will just have to buy some new ones! It needs some new canvas and a few small repairs but runs very strong. We have plans to upgrade it a bit, restore the body, fit new canvas, custom made rims with bead locks, 7 new tires and then prep it for racing.
